University of Cambridge – Taster Day
This event is designed to help broaden access to the University of Cambridge for students. It is also intended to give students a taste of what studying at a competitive university might be like and will include lectures, tours and the opportunity to meet some of our current undergraduates and teaching staff, all with the aim of demystifying the University of Cambridge and raising aspirations. There will be a session advising students on how to make competitive applications to university and stretch themselves further academically.
This event is aimed at high-achieving Year 12 students who would not otherwise find the opportunity to visit the University; perhaps because they cannot afford to or because they are skeptical as to whether Cambridge is for them. The students should be top academic performers amongst their cohort, but this day is not exclusively about Oxbridge and we would welcome students considering applying for competitive or high-tariff courses at any university.
This bespoke visit was arranged specifically for our school and included an opening session about the benefits of higher education, followed by a series of subject taster sessions in Mathematics, Psychology, Architecture, Business and Sport.
There was also an interactive zone demonstrating some of the key concepts that different subjects have to offer.
University of Nottingham – Young People and Politics Conference
There were people there from all over the UK and I really enjoyed meeting new people.
It was great to learn new things as I had little knowledge about the EU referendum when I arrived but felt I could confidently debate the subject after learning more about it.
I enjoyed the university environment and the structure of the day. It has helped inspire me to attend university next year.
