Students

Christian Distinctiveness

The Nottingham Emmanuel School Sixth Form recognises that all students are people made in the image of God and gifted with talents and a purpose. Our desire to reflect the diversity of talents and backgrounds is a reflection of our ethos and core values. At the heart of our teaching and learning is the desire to help each person develop wisdom, hope for greater opportunities for themselves and each member of the Emmanuel community and to ensure that each person is treated with dignity in all that they do here at the Emmanuel School Sixth Form.

Our talented and devoted Sixth Form staff team is committed to providing the very best teaching and learning for every student. Born out of a love for their subject, each teacher maintains the highest standards and expectations and will help each person to succeed through their studies. This love of knowledge is the bedrock for students to grow their own love for wisdom as they study. All staff desire that students do not see their Sixth Form studies as an end goal but an important step on the lifelong pursuit of knowledge and wisdom. We believe that this wisdom helps to shape each individual to make a valuable contribution to their communities and to experience a life lived to the full, echoing the words from James 3:13: 13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.

Our hope for each person here at the Nottingham Emmanuel Sixth Form is not one based upon wish fulfillment but rather a belief that all students deserve to be given unique, exciting and inspirational opportunities which will help them discover the calling that God has placed upon their lives. This desire to see hope grow comes from a desire to see each students life touched by love:

1 Corinthians 13 7 It (love) always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres

Our Christian ethos is firmly grounded in core biblical principles of service, compassion, justice and respect for all, where every student is valued as an individual. We run an established programme of service (Community Leadership) which provides opportunities for students to engage with their community here in Nottingham, the national community and the global community as we work with our friends at our partner school in Ghana. This sense of community is important to us as we seek to encourage each person to support and inspire others in order that everyone might reach their potential whilst here in our care.

Hebrews 10:24-25 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

A core value of the Sixth Form here at the Nottingham Emmanuel School is to see all students treated with dignity and demonstrating dignity in the way each person treats others. We believe that God has made each and every person in His image (Imago Dei). Everyone is afforded equal opportunities, given the individual support that they need and treated as a valuable member of the Emmanuel Sixth Form no matter what courses they are following or what background they are from. We celebrate each and every person and are excited to see how they can contribute to and shape who we are as a community.
