What to Study

The Nottingham Emmanuel School Sixth Form consistently strives to ensure that strong, high quality teaching and independent, hardworking students are at its core.

Our students benefit from individual guidance, as well as pastoral support and we strongly believe that the development of a more adult environment in our Sixth Form prepares them for their futures. Students’ progress is closely monitored to ensure that they achieve the results that they deserve and students at all levels are provided with a strong support system to facilitate excellent learning.

Choosing Your Course

Our curriculum enables you as a student to build upon the strengths that you have established in your GCSEs but to also study new subjects and qualifications such as Psychology, Sociology, Photography or Economics. We are confident that there is a combination of subjects which will be interesting, challenging and allow you as a student to achieve your goal beyond the Sixth Form.

You are encouraged to ask yourself the following questions:

  • Have I got a passion and interest in this subject?
  • Is my current academic performance strong enough in this subject area for me to be able to meet the entry requirements at A level?
  • Will this subject enable me to pursue a specialised career in medicine, law, sport, etc.?

For those of you who only have a general idea of your career ambitions, studying the subjects that most interest you will leave you with a wide choice of careers. Generally A and AS Levels are seen by both employers and institutions of higher education as indicators of a particular level of academic ability and determination. In selecting your A level subjects, please do not be anxious if you have not yet finalised your career pathway, simply choose the subjects that excite you so that you will be genuinely committed to studying them independently.
