We are proud of the careers programme we offer here at NES, which is designed to meet the 8 Gatsby benchmarks. Students at Nottingham Emmanuel Sixth Form are provided with a wealth of university, careers and apprenticeship support throughout their Sixth Form journey.
Employer Encounters
Sixth Form students have frequent encounters with employers through careers fairs, workplace visits, workshops and in-person and virtual work experience opportunities which are regularly promoted to students. Previous work place visits include Boots Headquarters, Browne Jacobson, and Experian.
Apprenticeships
Through DANCOP, we invite students to participate in a four week ‘Learn to Work’ programme where students can explore higher and degree apprenticeships and receive support with the application process. We are also proud to partake in National Apprenticeships Week, where students can discover the benefits of apprenticeships and hear from current apprentices about their experiences.
Super-Curricular Activities
Students are actively encouraged to engage in the super-curricular opportunities that are regularly promoted to them including university summer schools, mentoring schemes, subject taster days and outreach programmes to help raise their aspirations and support their future university and apprenticeship applications. Students also have the opportunity to complete an Extended Project Qualification during Year 12 which is highly respected by universities and employers.
University
The UCAS guidance Sixth Form students are provided with is thorough and bespoke to the needs of every student. In the summer term, Year 12 students participate in a personal statement workshop and visit a local university to explore the campus and speak to current undergraduates. Universities regularly deliver talks to our Sixth Form students on topics including Student Finance and Results Day and Clearing, and students wishing to study a Medicine or Oxbridge course are provided with specialist support to guide them through the rigorous application process.
Level 2 Next Steps Programme
Sixth Form students on the level 2 resit pathway follow a bespoke careers programme enabling them to develop the employability skills and careers knowledge to successfully proceed onto their chosen next steps. This programme includes visits to local colleges, universities and workplaces as well as the opportunity to partake in workshops which aim to develop skills for the workplace.
Students are also provided with the opportunity to engage with the following:
