We are proud of the careers programme we offer here at NES, which is designed to meet the 8 Gatsby benchmarks. Students at Nottingham Emmanuel Sixth Form are provided with a wealth of university, careers and apprenticeship support throughout their Sixth Form journey.
Work Experience
All Y12 students have a three day work experience placement at the end of the summer term, which can take place with an employer of their choice. In house and virtual work experience opportunities offered by employers are regularly promoted to students.
Apprenticeships
At NES we work closely with Amazing Apprenticeships, who visit our students throughout the academic year to deliver apprenticeship assemblies and workshops. We are also proud to partake in National Apprenticeships Week, where students can participate in apprenticeship masterclasses and partake in live Q+As with apprenticeship providers and current apprentices.
University
In the summer term, all Y12 students partake in a drop down day dedicated to the university application process. Students also participate in a personal statement workshop and visit a university campus to learn about university life. Specialist support is available for students applying for competitive courses, including Medicine and Oxbridge.
Employability Skills
Students are invited to participate in CV and interview skills workshops, delivered by specialist external providers. All Y12 students also partake in a mock interview event where they have a 20 minute mock interview with a professional employer, and receive feedback.
Level 2 Next Steps Programme
All students on the level 2 GCSE booster programme partake in a bespoke careers programme to support them with their next steps. This programme involves a visit to Nottingham College City Hub, participation in a 5 week ‘Words for Work’ programme and regular 1:1 meetings with a Sixth Form careers mentor.
All students are also provided with the opportunity to engage with the following:
- Weekly careers-focused tutor time activities
- Unifrog – an online careers platform
- UCAS exhibitions and other careers/apprenticeship fairs
- In-house ‘Careers in’… talks and career specific masterclasses
- 1:1 appointments with a qualified careers advisor
- Summer schools and subject taster days
- Workplace visits (previous trips include Experian and Boots).
